 | Moving Checklist - why you should use it | | Moving is something that not very many people enjoy. It is a lot of work, and the overall experience can be extremely stressful. There are so many things that have to be done, and forgetting one or two of them can quickly turn the move into a massive disaster. Everyone wants the move to go as smooth as possible, and with all of the things that need to be done, a smooth trouble free move can only be accomplished with one thing. You will need a moving checklist. Do you really need everything? Once you have secured a new place to live, it is time to get to work with your moving checklist. The first thing you should do is sit down with everyone, and take a long hard look at everything that you own. How much of your stuff has to go with you? You may not realize it, but in just a few short years most people quadruple their belongings. Do you really want to take all of it with you? The less that you have to move, the easier the move will be, because you will not have to manage as much. Don't rush this step. Think about it for a few days.. Once you finally decide what to keep, and what to part ways with, it is time to get rid of the stuff you no longer want. You might even be able to make a little extra money to help offset some of your moving expenses. Have a garage sale, or sell some of your items through an online classified ad. You can also donate your things to a needy cause. Contact a moving company. You should contact and hire a moving companies at least one month in advance. At this point in the game, you should know exactly what you need to move and where it is going. Time to shop for moving supplies. The next step on your moving check list should be getting moving supplies. Make sure that you have enough boxes, and moving blankets. If you plan on doing the move yourself, make sure that you have a few hand trucks or a furniture dolly. Work smart, not hard. Start packing! The big move might still be a few weeks out, but you can start packing up some things that you can live without. Packing can take a long time. It is best to get a good head start so you don't have any surprises come moving day. Let there be light! At about two weeks out, it is time to start making arrangements for utility services. You don't want to arrive at your new pad only to have no power. One week to go! At this point there is no turning back. Moving day is getting very close, and there is nothing that you can do to stop it. Time to get busy. - Put in a change of address.
- Transfer all of your prescription medicines.
- Return any movies or books to the local library.
- Return the power tools you borrowed from your neighbor a year ago. If your neighbor borrowed some from you, go get them back.
- Handle all of your financial accounts. You will have to update your address with your bank and any other financial institutions.
Moving day is here! Moving day will sneak up on you faster than you know it. This checklist may not be everything you need.
